yippee..its our 1st class today ! i'm soo looking fwd (booked for the class when i was about wk 21..) and have heard so much about Mrs Wong (even my colleagues who are delivering in other hospital have signed up for her class!) i can't wait....
Both me & dar have to attend the class together ( and i think that that's truly impt..really provided him with a better insight of this whole pregnancy process / his role / and to better prep him up for his new role!)
Lotsa stuff were shared during the the lesson.. from coping with pregnancy discomfort , how to get out from bed properly, antenatal exercise to strengthen your back/increase lung expansion etc.and also exercises that are beneficial to prevent neckache and back-ache, as well as legs cramp,firm and tone the breast etc etc
In addition, she shared with us on the nutrition b4 & after delivery & sending us into laughters with the myths & traditions (e.g. in olden days, ppl are not supposed to wash their hair after delivery..is cos there is no such thing as hair-dryer!!! and many other examples, which 'send' us nodding our heads away in agreement..)
Mrs Wong is truly experienced & humourous..though her class only ended @ 7pm (yesh..extended by 1/2 hour) but there was never a dull moment..there're soo many things to learn (but my fingers couldn't keep up with all the jotting down of the notes..) in the end, we left the class smiling..knowing that we have made the right decision to sign up for the class (and would urged all 1st time parents-to-be to do the same too !!) and here's the highlight of the whole class..
* Wearing the 'Vest'
Mrs Wong made all the hubbies wear this vest (which 'depicts' a pregnant woman..yesh..i'm talking about breasts and a big tummy) and they have to try standing up and sitting down with the vest on..really funny !! you can see some of the daddy-to-be trying hard to stand up..balance themselves etc..guess now the hubbies know that INDEED his wife's body is changing and is not 'agile' as before..so pls be more patient with us.. (in fact, after the class, dar looked @ me..& said "辛苦你了, realli wasn't easy with the vest on, now i know..")
* Talking to your Unborn Child*
- "Cup" your hands & gently touch your tummy (following the motion of Right-Left-Up-Down)
- "Butterfly" stroke ( like what we used to do when we were young to create the butterfly shadow..slowly wriggle the fingers on the tummy.. for MTB, we can do it in the downward motion i.e. towards our belly-button and for our DH, can do both upward & downward motion
- "An-Tai" ( stroke upwards, just like how we apply our massage cream)
** Remember..NEVER NEVER to rub in circular motion cos it will lead to premature labour !!!
* "Doula" Massage *
our husband is the 'doula' / cheerleader & supporter in the labour ward.. (i just learnt what is a 'doula' - its basically non-medical assistant who provides various forms of non-medical support ..and in TMC, they charge about $1,000 to engage a doula!! gosh..i think my dar can do it..hoping he dun faint in the labour ward..oppss)
there are 5 steps to the massage (sitting crossed-legged) :
(1) INDIAN MILKING
~ using the palm to stroke from shoulder to the wrist and vice versa
(2) SWEDISH MILIKING
~ using the palm to stroke from the underarm to wrist and vice versa
(3) ROLLING PIN
~ using both the palms to rub the arms from shoulder to wrist and vice versa (just like a rolling-pin)
(4) INDIAN TWIST
~ "as if wringing the clothe' , from shoulder to wrist and vice versa
(5) FINGERS MASSAGE
~ open & close the fingers ( 5 times) --> DH to 'twiggle' each fingers & pull gently --> 'flat pinch' on each fingers --> side pinch on each fingers --> massage the wrist
Lastly.. Breathe in and out......
~ That's all for today.. we are looking fwd to our next class and before i end this post..here's our goodies from the class.... *yawns & nitez*
